Budget 2025 is grounded in a simple but powerful idea: while we cannot control what other nations do, we can control what we choose to build here at home – a stronger, safer, and more prosperous Canada.
Under Prime Minister Mark Carney’s leadership, our new government is delivering a bold plan to BUILD, PROTECT, and EMPOWER Canada.
BUILD
Canada can no longer rely on deeply integrated trade relations with the United States; we must build up our economy from coast to coast to coast.
We have the resources, the people, and the knowledge to build Canada Strong on our own. At the same time, one of our greatest strengths is our reliable trade partnerships. Canada is the only G20 nation that has trade agreements with all other G7 countries; we are also building stronger relationships worldwide, so we can double non-U.S. exports.
Through Build Canada Homes, we are constructing millions of homes over the next decade, using Canadian steel, Canadian aluminum, and Canadian lumber, creating new Canadian jobs.
Budget 2025 is about productivity and competitiveness. We are accelerating major nation building projects, including high-speed rail between Ontario and Quebec, nuclear power, renewable energy, and arctic economic and security projects. Canada has always been a proud nation of builders.
PROTECT
The world has changed, and Canada must change with it. While foreign conflicts and economic uncertainty are shaping global politics, we must remain focused on protecting and strengthening the foundations that make Canada Strong.
In order to protect Canadians from global crises, we are undertaking the largest defence investment in generations – $81.8 billion over five years – to strengthen our sovereignty. Meanwhile, we are forging new partnerships with reliable international allies.
To protect our communities, we have introduced the toughest border protection and anti-trafficking laws in Canadian history, and we are hiring 1,000 new RCMP personnel and 1,000 new CBSA officers.
Bail and sentencing reforms will ensure that repeat violent offenders are kept off our streets. Combined with our Anti-Hate Legislation, we have a strong plan to keep our communities safe.
EMPOWER
Budget 2025 will empower Canadians, by spending less so we can invest more in Canada’s future: creating high-paying jobs, building our country, and growing our economy.
This plan rests on two fiscal anchors:
– Balancing the government’s operational spending by 2028-29, while investing in our people and economy, and;
– Reducing our deficit as the economy grows.
We are focused on improving affordability for Canadians – by lowering costs, expanding opportunity, and protecting the vital social programs Canadians rely on, from child care to dental care, to pharmacare.
Budget 2025 takes bold steps to build our economy, protect our communities, and empower Canadians. It is a vision for a stronger Canada. It is the people of Eglinton—Lawrence who make Canada Strong every day.
It is my privilege to support Budget 2025. Alongside Prime Minister Mark Carney, I will continue to fight for you, your families, and your future.
